Subsonic ammunition when used with a sound suppressor can be an effective tool for home defense. Two main concerns can be addressed with subsonic ammunition in a home defense scenario: Projectile pass through; and deafening as a result of shooting in an enclosed area. Due to subsonic velocities many subsonic projectiles lack the penetrating ability of supersonic projectiles travelling up to three times faster. This helps keep loved bystanders safe in a high pressure situation by reducing the chances of projectiles passing through multiple walls.
